ALMOST 4,000 POUNDS OF WASTE GATHERED ON FORESHORE BEACH
On Saturday 16th September, Angostura Limited partnered with the European Union, British High Commission, POS Corporation and The Heroes Foundation, to clean up the Beachfront Foreshore, Port of Spain. The Mayor of Port of Spain, Mr. Joel Martinez, Ambassador Aad Biesebroek of the EU Delegation to Trinidad and Tobago and British High Commissioner, Mr. Tim Stew were all present to lend a hand to the collection of waste.
The exact site chosen was at the mouth of the Maraval river, off the Audrey Jeffers Highway, where the outflow of garbage settles on the small beach area behind the Courtyard Marriott Hotel.
3,439 lbs. of mostly plastics and 50 tyres were collected by the small group of volunteers. Several other items of local concern were also found, such as a baby’s pram and car parts. This was a significant amount of waste which was prevented from entering the water and it will certainly contribute to the reduction of the negative impact on our beautiful Caribbean Sea.
Angostura thanks the volunteers who came out on that Saturday morning to assist with the exercise.
