The History of Angostura

THE HISTORY OF ANGOSTURA

	The Story begins with Dr. Johann Siegert. Born in Grob-Waldiz, Silesia. Studied at University of Berlin. Later became Surgeon General of Simon Bolivar’s army during liberation wars of South America in 1800’s. Posted to town of Angostura “The Narrows”; now know as Ciudad Bolivar, Venezuela. Becomes a skilled apothecary using medicinal herbs, plants and roots to cure sick and wounded soldiers. One of these remedies becomes known as “armago aromatico” or aromatic bitters (1824).
	The wars end but Siegert dies in 1870. His family relocates to island of Trinidad. Don Carlos Siegert (eldest son of J Siegert) introduces bitters to the world at various foreign exhibitions. They take with them the secret of bitters and a passion for producing fine rums. Their signature blend is “Siegert’s Special Bouquet Rum” infused with the aroma of bitters
	The Royal Warrant to provide product to the Royal household has been held by the Company during several reigns.
